June Budget

We're about to wrap up the month of June, so it's time to recap this month's budget! This month consisted of two bigger purchases, one from ThredUP and one from LOFT Outlet, which had a promotion this month where cardholders got 15% off on Tuesdays, so I made a trip out after work one day to cash in! I also went quite a bit over budget--I decided that it would be fair to use some of the money I received from graduation gifts to buy work clothes. I am proud to report that everything I bought this month is work-appropriate, so I'm happy with how I spent that gift money!

1) Split neck blouse | LOFT | $20 This is a perfect work shirt to throw on with a pair of relaxed pants--and in one of my best colors, too!

2) Leopard print dress | ThredUP | $10 I own this dress in plain brown and love it, so when I saw it in leopard print for such a bargain, I had to have it!

3) Floral dress | LOFT | $25 This dress is a soft cotton jersey that's light and comfortable, but is long enough to be work-appropriate! Truly a dream.

4) Scarves | LOFT | $15 each I love scarves and I can't stop myself. 'Nuff said.

5) Loafers | ThredUP | $12 I have been looking for more interesting shoes (rather than plain flats which I usually gravitate to) and although I haven't found anything in a while, I did find these neat Sole Society loafers! I'm a big fan of the tassels.

6) Cardigan | ThredUP | $12 I just love the look of this piece! It is a cardigan but it's structured more like a jacket, so it's comfortable but also a nice polished piece to wear to work.

Starting amount: $75
Left over from April: $7
Amount spent: $109

Total items purchased: 7
Average cost per item: $15.57

Blogging Besties: Recent Acquisition

image
The Blogging Besties series is the brain child of Alex @ Undergraduate Style and Whitney @ Whitney à la Mode. In 2015 the series expanded to include Maricel @ My Closet Catelogue and me, Selah @ A Bibliophile's Style. It's based on the idea of "take one, pass it on," but we're passing on an element from another blogger's outfit. It's a fun challenge that inspires us to be creative!

Last week, Maricel stunned in this blue and white floral dress:

The prompts she gave me were "something floral, something navy, something light and airy, or a recent acquisition".

I'm on a self imposed clothes shopping ban. However, my beloved purple purse was on it's last legs, so I recently replaced it. This pink, quilted, dome satchel is my recent acquisition.

Again with the Lemons

Y'all know I'm a sucker for all things lemon print. I just find it so quirky and fun! Last summer I shared an outfit with my lemon print dress, and now I'm showing off some fun lemon print shorts I picked up over spring break. I wore this outfit for my photo shoot with my photographer friend James Hoyt, but this summer I've worn them as a more casual piece when it's just too hot to wear pants!

Blogging Besties :: A Last-Minute Spring Outfit

Image (24)
Blogging Besties is a weekly series featuring Whitney of Whitney à la mode, Alex of Undergraduate Style, Maricel of ::My Closet Catalogue:: and Selah of A Bibliophile’s Style. Each week, one of the bloggers will choose one component from the previous week’s outfit to pass on in a brand new look. This “take one, pass it on” challenge is an inspiration to stretch your closet and your imagination!
Last week, Alex sported super fun, book-ended cognac:

And this week is brought to you by: “lace, leather, booties, or a last-minute spring outfit".

So for your viewing pleasure, I give you: a last-minute spring outfit.

  Image (25)

It's actually summertime for me right now. My last day of school with kids was June 9th. Sadly, I still have through the 24th completing professional development, so a break is still long in coming.

The only good thing about this extended work period is that I get to wear fun dresses and not look overly made up as I go about my day. This one is a beaut and a recent acquisition and is so light and airy, it is indeed reminiscent of spring.

  Image (26)

It's a breathable, forgiving cotton blend and I feel like a fairy princess when I twirl or when the wind catches it at just the right time. And yet it's weighty and substantial enough that I don't need a slip even though it's white.

Oh, and those pumps? They're actually navy, not black (curse you, Marfa filter!) and they're the first pair of Aerosoles I've tried that actually live up to the brand's reputation of being both cute and comfy. I guess I just have to remember to get wide width in this label.

Selah’s turn next week, I challenge her to the following: something floral, something navy, something light and airy, or a recent acquisition.

Vive le vendredi!

Working Girl

Folks, I meant to write this post about two weeks ago, but I've been too busy to write it because...

I GOT A JOB!!!

Two weeks ago, I started working as a recruiting assistant at a staffing agency. I aspire towards a career in human resources, so recruiting is a great fit for me! So far, I love my job. As for the sartorial side of my new occupation, I have been adapting to the concept of dressing professionally every day. I finally bought a new camera and keep meaning to take outfit photos after work, but I'm still waiting for my tripod to arrive in the mail. However, those who follow me on Instagram (@undergraduatestyle, hint hint) have seen a few snaps I've taken of my work outfits!

My outfit for today is actually from a few months ago (it's much too hot for it now) but it's the only professional outfit I have saved, so enjoy!

Blogging Besties: White Bottoms

Blogging Besties is a weekly series featuring Whitney of Whitney à la mode, Alex of Undergraduate Style, Maricel of ::My Closet Catelogue:: and Selah of A Bibliophile's Style.  Each week, one of the bloggers will choose one component from the previous week's outfit to pass on in a brand new look.  This "take one, pass it on" challenge is an inspiration to stretch your closet and your imagination!

Last week, Whitney was a straight STUNNER with her neat Michigan wall and cute outfit! I cannot resist an opportunity to wear my white jeans, so today I'm "passing on" white bottoms!

I wore this spring outfit for my photo shoot with the legendary photographer James Hoyt--white jeans paired with cognac leather and a pretty lavender lace blouse.
